Progress All Around!

As Week Seven draws to a close, we have some news that you will be sure to enjoy. Even though we were planning on having our Demo Day next week, we are going to have to push it back because there are two more additional weeks of our skate classes! March 12 will be our final day of classes, which means the next two weeks will be devoted to reviewing what we have learned in our previous classes.

This week we began preparing for Demo Day by breaking into smaller groups that focused on three different styles of skating. These groups included the bank, the halfpipe, and flatground skating. Each group spent around fifteen minutes in each section, and would then rotate. This way, everyone got plenty of time to practice on each obstacle.

The coaches and I saw a lot of progress this week. More and more skaters are becoming comfortable riding down the bank; many of you are able to go for it completely solo. In the halfpipe, there was a lot of progress in terms of using our momentum to pump higher and higher on the transition. Finally, us coaches have seen noticeable improvement in overall board control, especially when it comes to flatground skating.

In our closing message, coach Trevor pointed out how great it feels to overcome fear and accomplish something new. Some of obstacles that were once scary can be conquered with no worries at all. You have all done a great job of pushing yourselves each week to improve, while still having fun in the process. Think back to Week One, when some of you were riding boards for the first time. Now, after almost two months, you have made new friends while learning a new skill. This progression is a direct result of working hard; so keep up the fantastic work!
