BEACH FAQ
WHAT’S THE AGE RANGE FOR SUMMER BEACH CAMP?
WHILE CHAMPS COME IN ALL AGES, our beach camp age range IS 4 to 12. With that in mind, Please note that campers must be FULLY potty trained (from a - z) — no exceptions! Also, kiddos must have the ability to consistently answer to their names when called in order to attend.
What are your hours and how long does a session last?
Beach camp sessions Run m-f from 9:00 Am - 3:00 PM, WITH A BRAND spankin’ NEW ONE STARTING EACH WEEK. We also offer a half day option that runs from 9am - 12:30pm.
DO you offer an early drop-off option?
Yep — New for 2024, we’re excited to announce an early drop-off option of 8:20 AM! This option will be made available in limited quantities each week. The cost is $24 per day, which families can opt into during the registration process. *Please note that early drop off is not available at our El Segundo Beach Location.
Do you offer an extended care option?
nope! With such an action-packed day, camp ends promptly at 3:00, as we don't want our kiddos (or coaches!) to be too tired for the rest of the week's fun :)
Do you have any options for older campers?
We sure do— back for summer 2024, we’re excited to roll out our new & improved boogie board camp! As the only boogie camp in the south bay, this program is a great option for campers ages 8-14 of all boogie boarding levels. Click below to learn more!
How do drop-off and pick-up work?
For all locations, drop-off takes place from 9:00 TO 9:30 am. We stagger the time in order to minimize traffic back-ups.
Pick UP runs from 2:40 TO 3:00 pm (or 12:15-12:30 for our Half Day Camp). Simply pull up to the same spot that you dropped off your camper in the morning and a CHAMP CAMP staff member will be there ready to help your camper to the car. Thank you for your steadfast patience and cooperation throughout this process!
Please note that if you arrive after the drop-off window (excluding early drop off fams), you’ll need to park and walk your kiddo to camp on the beach. THANK YOU in advance for your legal parking efforts!
Regarding location-specific drop-off and pick-up details, you will be emailed visual instructions in the week preceding your session(s).
HOW LONG HAS CHAMP CAMP BEEN AROUND?
Champ Camp was founded in 2012, so if you’re following along with the math THIS WILL BE OUR 12TH YEAR ON THE SAND! Holy guacamole, batman — we’re almost teenagers!
That seems like a long day at the beach. What if my camper needs time to just chill?
It’d be an understatement to say that partying at the beach for six hours a day is tiring. During every set of activities, we offer at least one “R&R” option. This means that if your child wants to rest for a little bit they have the choice to pick A LESS STRENUOUS ACTIVITY like DRAWING OR SAND CASTLE CREATION. To avoid having campers drain themselves by being too active all day or miss out on the fun by not being active enough, CHAMP CAMP aims to find a balance between the two. To Boot, We provide our campers with plenty of shade under our tents that they can retreat to at any time!
WHAT ACTIVITIES DOES CHAMP CAMP OFFER?
Click below to feast your eyes on our beach activities page, where you’ll find an ever-evolving list of our most popular offerings on the sand!..
Is Champ Camp Licensed?
You Betcha! SINCE 2012, We’Ve BEEN on a shortlist of Companies licensed by l.A. County Dept. of Beaches and harbors to offer beach camps in the south bay. This means that we adhere to and are held accountable for the highest standards of safety out there. Our covid safety plan, and general safety policies and procedures, are all approved by L.A. County!
How’s my camper grouped?
Generally speaking, our answer to this question is “However they want!” At the start of camp, CHAMP Campers are given the ability to freely choose where to set up their area and what activities to play throughout the day. This means that siblings and/or buddies that sign up together are able to hang out with one another, no matter their ages! As an added dose of precaution, we keep our kids are spread out as much as possible, whether they’re playing or just chillin’ under the tents. One thing to note is that, In an attempt to minimize lost & Found items, half-day campers keep their belongings in a nearby (but separate) area.
My child is not comfortable in the ocean. Is champ Camp right for them?
HECK Yes! During the online registration process, you will be asked whether or not your child IS COMFORTABLE IN THE OCEAN. AS IT TURNS OUT, MOST PARENTS RESPOND "NO!" SO, MOST OF OUR WATER TIME ACTIVITIES CONSIST OF ON-THE-SHORE games, wave jumpin', Sand Castle Creatin', SEARCHIN’ FOR SAND CRABS, and so on. Our campers stay together in one big group on the shore and very shallow water, encapsulated by counselors and overseen by the L.A. COUNTY lifeguard on duty. Be sure to check out our beach SAFETY page for MORE info on how we stay safe at all times!
My child is very comfortable in the ocean. Is champ camp a good fit?
Again, YeP - Couldn't be better! On the first day of camp, we group all of those whose parents said they ARE comfy in the ocean and observe their water abilities. Based on our observations, we determine which cAMPERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO VENTURE OUT A BIT DEEPER WITH OUR COUNSELORS. Whether your child is on the shore or splashing a bit deeper, our FIVE-TO-ONE ratio is in full swing!
