CALLING ALL GROMS! WE’RE SUUUPER STOKED TO ANNOUNCE El Segundo’s FIRST ANNUAL Slam City: A KIDS SKATE CONTEST and tribute to scott burton! GET READY TO COME TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS FOR FOOD, FUN, AND a good ol’ fashioned skate contest for the south bay community. All levels are welcome and encouraged to throw their helmets in the ring!

**A COMPETITION WITH A CAUSE**

ASIDE FROM A FEEL GOOD EVENT TO BRING THE LOCAL SKATE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE THE UNITY THAT SKATEBOARDING OFFERS, THE GROMPETITON IS BEING ORGANIZED FOR A SPECIAL CAUSE: AS A TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF SCOTT BURTON.
ON SUNDAY AUGUST 27TH, 2023 SCOTT BURTON PASSED AWAY AFTER SUFFERING A HEART ATTACK.
SCOTT WAS A LOVING FAMILY MAN AND A POSITIVE LIGHT TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM. HE WAS SMART, COMPASSIONATE, CARING, GENEROUS, AND THE VERY DEFINITION OF "CHILL." YOU WOULD ALWAYS SEE HIM IN SHORTS AND FLIP-FLOPS IN ANY KIND OF WEATHER. SCOTT LOVED WATCHING HIS KIDS PLAY ALL SPORTS, BUT MORE THAN MOST, LOVED TO WATCH HIS DAUGHTER MAKENA SKATEBOARD.
PULLING TOGETHER AN EL SEGUNDO SKATEBOARDING COMPETITION IS SOMETHING SCOTT SPOKE OF OFTEN. OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE AN EVENT WHERE KIDS WHO PARTICIPATE IN EXTREME SPORTS COULD BE PROVIDED A SPACE TO SHOWCASE THEIR ABILITIES AND HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER LOCAL ATHLETES.
IF THERE IS SOMETHING WE CAN PROMISE YOU, IT’S THAT SCOTT BURTON’S BRIGHT LIGHT WILL BE SHINNING DOWN ON THIS EPIC DAY!
ALL PROCEEDS FROM SLAM CITY EL SEGUNDO SKATEBOARDING COMPETITION WILL GO TOWARDS EL SEGUNDO KIDS AND FAMILIES.

Located adjacent to the teen center, on the Southern most side of City’s the sprawling Rec Park, The El Segundo Skatepark is a safe and quaint little area that packs quite a punch. From flatground and mellow ramps to stairs, rails, and ledges, this perfect little park is a wonderful place for skaters of all levels to hone their craft AND SHOWCASE THEIR SKILLS!

How do i sign my Skater up for this program?

What is included in enrollment?

Enrolled participants will receive a custom t-shirt on the day of the event and the ability to skate in the competition! Additionally, there Prizes will be given to the winners of each bracket. Most importantly, skaters and families get to come together to enjoy a fun and epic afternoon of skateboarding!

What should my kiddo BRING to the contest?

Skateboard
Water
As many good vibes as possible

What should my kiddo WEAR to the contest?

Comfy clothes
Safety gear
- Helmet, elbow/ knee pads, wristguards

Outside of the competition, what else will be goin’ on at this event?

You bet! El Segundo’s SLam City will also feature an expo on the basketball court next to the skatepark, where the event’s sponsors will have giveaways and info about their organization. Additionally, there will be a food truck onsite with meals available for purchase. Entry to the expo is free for all!
